Welcome! I’m Abigail Braden, designer and owner of August Interiors. I love chairs, wallpaper, color, all things quirky. . . and animals! Proud dog and cat mama (and a couple of humans too). But enough about me, let’s talk about you!

You’re currently scoping out interior designers, trying to find one whose style you like, possibly even trying to decide if you should hire one at all! I’m biased, but you should hire one!  Like a mechanic for your car or a doctor for your health, I’m the expert and the problem solver! I solve space planning problems, color problems, budget problems, stress problems.

I said it: stress. You may not think in terms of your house stressing you out, but that’s what its doing. Good design is more than making things pretty. It’s making things functional, in a personal way. That is, your home has to work for you and your household’s needs. You’d be surprised how your life improves after your home is redesigned for the way you and your family lives. When I told my friend that renovating her bathroom would “change her life,” she, naturally, thought it was hyperbole . . . After the renovations, with all the changes that were designed just for her and her family, she told me it was, in fact, life changing. It’s not as dramatic as it sounds– when you think about it, tailoring anything in your life to exactly how you want it and to service you in exactly how you use it has the potential to change your life, by eliminating the stress it was causing by not working for you.

Personal also means for you- not your mother, not your friend who doesn’t like what you like, and certainly not for me. I’ll never forget a comment I read on online about interior design; the woman said, “why would I want to hire someone to design my home? it’s mine, and I don’t want it their way!” Nothing could be further from the truth for me.  I’m here with expertise about things to make the process of making your home work for you easier, but my only goal is to design what makes you happy. Do you only want designer fabrics and custom furniture? Sweet. On a limited budget and prefer retail? Works for me! There’s an abundance of readily available gorgeous design out there. Don’t be afraid to hire– or at least talk to– a designer because you think it can’t work for you. I’m not here to design your house my way– I already did that in my house! I’m here to work for you designing it your way.

What can you expect when contact me? The first step is for me to visit your space and get to know you, your family, and the space. We’ll start with an in-depth questionnaire about your problems with your space(s), and what you want it be: how you use it (or want to use it), your color and style preferences, your budget, etc. Then I’ll prepare drawings, including a floor plan and elevations, and present some initial ideas about furniture, color, fabric, etc. We”ll work together from there to refine into your ideal home!

There are many reasons why those gorgeous home designs you see online and in magazine might not work for your space (and lots of reasons why they might!); let me help you design something beautiful that is also personal in both style and function.
