Boy-Girl Twins’ Shared Bedroom

This project was started when the mother of boy-girl twins decided that a redesign of their shared bedroom would help them stop sleeping with her! She also wanted a dedicated homework station, and storage for books. Since she wanted to upgrade them to full-size beds, a full-over-full bunk bed was the only solution, leaving space for 2 desks and storage. The kids could not agree on decor, so we went with mom’s love of everything farmhouse! The use of 2 plaids and a gender-neutral color scheme of blue, white, sage, and brown makes this room fun for the kids now, something that can grow with them, and something that mom likes, too!

Buffalo Plaid Master Bathroom

The married couple who needed to renovate this bathroom could only agree on one thing they both liked/wanted to see in the new bath- classic black and white. That set the stage for the whole design, as we ultimately ended up with this graphic Buffalo-plaid black and white tile on the floor and carried up the back wall of the wet room. A custom white oak vanity helps keep the warmth in the room, while providing storage, double sinks, and a makeup area for her- all client priorities. The wet room got updated black fixtures, a freestanding tub, and a wall of glass- a sleeker and more modern look over the existing wonky and heavy half- and pony-walls.

Fun Blue & White Dining Room

These clients love color and pattern, but couldn’t figure out how to get themselves there. We landed on this graphic linear navy-and-white wallpaper, kept above their chair rail, and painted below a crisp white to modernize the color palette. New blue and white curtains, a new dark rug, and some new art was all it took to update this room- done on a budget- into something the clients love.

Girl’s Dark Green Bedroom

This little girl requested “animals and plants” when I interviewed her about what she wanted in her new room. I decided to do animal-heavy wallpaper in green, to make her feel like she was living in the plants. She chose this fabulous paper, and I pulled the teals, dark greens, gold, yellow, and white from the paper for the rest of the color palette. She got upgraded to a full size bed, and a nightstand was replaced with a desk (a mom request!) Animals feature heavily in the room not only literally, through the cheetah pillows and peacock lamp, but figuratively too, via the leopard-print window treatments and zebra-print rug. Birch-tree bookcases round out the theme, and what kid doesn’t want a swinging chair in a book nook?

Graphic Shower Tile Teens’ Bathroom

This bathroom was outdated, but the client’s number one request with the renovation was that the shower be as easy to clean as it was now- with the pre-fab, full-size acrylic panels lining the walls! I knew then that we’d be swapping that out for large format tile- in this case, we used (4) 5’x3’ panels to create the new surround, of an easy-to-clean porcelain. The client did not want a gray-and-white bathroom, so we added some color and contrast with the geometric floor tile and a black vanity. We carried the veined-porcelain tiles up behind the vanity for an additional pop of texture.

Ridgefield Modern Living Room & Office

This young family moved into a bigger house and, as frequently happens, discovered that their living room furniture was too few in pieces and too small in scale for their new great room, which also came with beige walls and carpeting. The power of paint really shows in this project- the walls went pale gray, the trim crisp white, and the inside trim black- still all the same trim and windows! A huge new sectional, colorful rug and other pieces made this space somewhere they actually wanted to spend time. On the other side of the windows were 2 spaces- a wetbar and a nook with a bookcase placed in it. We revamped both to match the rest of the space in color and design, replacing the mirrored-back of the wetbar with brass-inlaid marble tile, refaced the cabinets, and created built-ins to match in the other nook. In the office, custom box-molding, new shelves, and a coat of navy paint gave the room some texture, depth, and functionality.

Serene Dark Gray Powder Room

The client wanted this powder room to be updated to be more modern and “serene”. She likes dark colors and did not want “just another gray and white” bathroom. For serenity, we chose this vinyl, textured wallpaper that looks like silk in a dark colorway, and a coordinating dark paint on the wainscoting. A cobalt blue vanity, fun black and white mirror, and a new sconce helped with the update.

South Salem Modern Kitchen

The client for this kitchen project had a huge wish list for a small space. Besides the usual desires for more and better storage and function, she really wanted an island with seating. Aesthetically, she wanted to update the outdated looks for something more modern, clean, and bright. We tried numerous ways to get the island, and looked at taking down a wall and all the options, but ultimately most things were too out of the budget. So we ended up keeping the narrow island, but extended it an additional 4 feet in order to get 2 seats there. The right side, wonky with varying depths and an unneeded desk, became all-flush with pantry cabinets, ovens, and the and fridge. Mixed finishes really stand out in the space, with 3 colors of cabinetry, 2 metal finishes, and polished and matte stone surfaces. A custom-designed tile hood is the focal point, with it’s veining mirroring that of the quartz backsplash.

Wesport CT Transitional Bathroom

This master bathroom client wanted to modernize, but kept being drawn to more traditional materials and details. In the end, we compromised for a modern-traditional bath!. The fixtures have a traditional shape and finish in polished brass, and the basketweave tile detail, ivory floor tile, and inset cabinetry keep things looking classic. But we ventured out of the beige zone and brightened and modernized by painting the walls and custom vanity a bright white, and we ditched the built-in tub for a freestanding one with a modern-silhouette. Taking the new cabinetry all the way to the top of the 9’ ceilings helped make this already-large space look even bigger and brighter.

Family Bathrooms Renovations

Both bathrooms were taken down to the studs, and an adjoining wall was moved 2′ back to give both rooms more space. The master traded a tub for a large walk-in shower and was given a complete design overhaul. In the kids bathroom, the new size allowed for the vanity to be moved, giving a bigger vanity and better access to it. This room also got a whole new fun design!

Staten Island Living Room

The existing fireplace surround– mantle, yellow marble, and stacked stone– was removed to allow for custom built-ins and new tile.

Ridgefield, CT Modern Farmhouse

A lot of the  Ridgefield house was designed in easier ways– new paint, furniture, etc. But a few of the rooms underwent major transformations.

The master bedroom had a small closet sealed up for more space along the bed wall, and had a custom window seat installed. For more space, a wall was taken down, which also allowed a new closet– built under the loft– to be enclosed within the layout of the new master.

For the best functionality and use of space, the existing dining room and kitchen were removed and the spaces were switched: the new kitchen took the place of the old dining room and the old kitchen is now the dining room. In the old kitchen, the wall with the dishwasher was removed to allow for better space flow..

The front hall had a closet removed, the front door was changed and moved, and new flooring, a new stair railing, and new board and batten wainscoting was installed. The office got new French doors and were relocated along their wall.

Finally, never underestimate the power of functional organization! Lots of shelves, baskets, hooks and bins allowed everything in this playroom to have a home. A place to sit and read and an open area to play completed the space.

CA Modern Retro Kitchen

Bright colors, mixed patterns, and new almost-everything updated this kitchen while keeping its retro sensibility.

The clients had this CT living room modern and sleek– except for this fireplace wall! We removed molding, covered the grooves, painted the wood and bricks, and brought in custom wallpaper and tile.

Dramatic changes due in no small part to clearing the clutter! But both bedrooms got fresh paint and new, minimalist furniture to help keep the spaces feeling clean and clutter-free.
