This family needed more bathroom space, especially in the kids’ bath, where the parents couldn’t even be in the space with their boys at the same time. The master bathroom, located behind and sharing walls with the boys’ bathroom, needed an aesthetic and functional upgrade. A shared wall was moved 2′ back (taking space away from a large bedroom), giving the kids’ bath its much needed space. We were able to move the vanity to this new wall, which gave us a bigger vanity and better access to it. Then graphic black and white floor tile, which continue up the wall behind the vanity and left with a funky edge; contrasting-pattern black and white shower tile; matte black plumbing fixtures; and pops of red and yellow add to the fun mix.
The master bathroom lost the tub in favor of a large walk-in shower, with luxurious and visually-opening glass doors. The client and I call this “organic glam”! She wanted a peaceful, spa-like bath but with some color. I chose an earthy palette of taupes, grays, and green for both the spa feel and the color element. A teak vanity and shelving, and alabaster sconces added to the organic feel by adding more natural materials. But we kept the space feeling luxurious with other details: 3 shades of the tile to create an ombre effect on the walls; satin brass fixtures (and even edging along the top of the tile); and lucite towel bars and hooks. An old school radiator was traded for radiant heat floors.
